Rare three-page George Orwell letter to be auctioned in Stonehouse

A handwritten 1940 letter in which George Orwell discusses politics, children’s literature and the idea of a left-leaning weekly for young readers is being offered by Quire Auctions in Stonehouse. The letter forms part of the literary estate of children’s author Geoffrey Trease, with the letter and wider archive carrying a combined estimate of £5,000 to £8,000.

Early-morning yoga returns to Stroud’s Museum in the Park this autumn

Emma Tilley will lead 60-minute Vinyasa Flow yoga sessions at the Museum in the Park in Stratford Park, Stroud, from Tuesday, September 8 until Tuesday, December 15, 2026. Classes run from 9.15am to 10.15am in the Pavilion overlooking the Walled Garden. All abilities are welcome, but participants are advised that the energetic sessions can be physically demanding. Attendees should bring a yoga mat and water bottle.

Stroud summer party promises vinyl, disco and Afro-Latin sounds at SVA

Stroud Valleys Artspace will host the Svaaaa Summer Party at its John Street venue from 9pm on Saturday, September 5, 2026, until 1am on Sunday, September 6. The over-18 event will feature DJs Tim Telling, Liam Large and the Joicey DJ Collective, with tickets available on a pay-what-you-can basis.
