A long-established motor parts business serving Stonehouse motorists and garages is set to close at the end of the year, after its owners decided to retire.

Stonehouse Autoparts began trading in Queens Road in 1978. The business later moved to the forecourt of Bridge Service Station in 1981, where it operated as both a retail shop and a trade supplier.

Its trade operation included delivering motor parts to garages across the area. The closure means local private customers and automotive businesses will lose a supplier that has been operating for more than four decades.

Owners announce retirement

Owners Ian Miles and Rob Prosser said they had not taken the decision lightly. In a message to customers, they described the business as having had “many highs and a few low moments” during its more than 40 years of trading.

“After long deliberation, we have decided to close the shop and retire.
“It’s been quite a journey over the last 40+ years with many highs and a few low moments.
“It has been a joy dealing with all of you, and we will miss you, but we feel now is the time to close the doors, sell off the stock and wander off to our respective retirement homes!”

The owners said the business would sell off its remaining stock before the doors close. No specific final trading date was given in the announcement.

A Stonehouse business since 1978

Stonehouse Autoparts’ history spans two locations. It started in Queens Road before moving three years later to Bridge Service Station, where it continued to serve both members of the public and garages.

The announcement marks the planned end of an independent automotive business with a long-standing role in Stonehouse’s local trade network. Customers have been thanked by the owners, who said they would miss dealing with them.

The closure was announced by Stroud Times on November 5, 2026.
