Families in Stroud will be able to step back nearly 2,000 years this summer when Museum in the Park hosts a Roman-themed activity day at Stratford Park.
Revealing the Romans will take place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at The Museum in the Park on Stratford Road, Stroud. The drop-in session will run from 11.30am to 3.30pm, giving families flexibility to arrive during the four-hour event.
What children can do
The museum-inspired session is designed to introduce children to Roman life in the Stroud Valleys through practical activities. Children can dress up in a tunic and belt, choose a Roman name and learn about Roman coins by designing their own.
Other activities include creating a paper mosaic based on Roman villa floor patterns and making a Roman-style votive offering while exploring ideas about Roman religion and belief. Young visitors can also take part in a mini archaeological dig, including an excavation of Roman “poo” intended to reveal what people ate.
Booking and family details
The activity is aimed at families with children aged over five to explore together, although younger children can participate with support from an adult. Entry costs £1 per child, payable on the day, and the event does not require families to attend at a fixed time within the advertised drop-in period.
