Families in Stroud can spend a summer day among fairy folklore, traditional stories and Peter Pan adventures when Fairy Folk Day arrives at The Museum in the Park on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The event runs from 10.30am to 3.30pm at the museum in Stratford Park, Stratford Road, Stroud. Visitors can listen to traditional songs and stories, meet characters from fairy lands and learn about folklore. Children can also make a magic wand to take home.
Activities for children aged five and over
The programme is aimed at families with children aged five and over. Children are invited to come dressed as a fairytale character, although this is optional. A parent or carer must accompany each child, and adults are welcome to join in.
A drop-in craft activity will run throughout the main event hours, costing £1 per child, with payment made on the door. The activities will be based in the Garden Pavilion at the top of the Walled Garden, with entry and exit through Museum Reception.
Peter Pan sword school requires booking
Peter Pan Sword School sessions are scheduled for 11am and 2pm on the Walled Garden lawn, weather permitting. Each session is limited to 20 children. Booking is required, with places booked on the day, and the cost is £1 per child.
Fairy Folk Day will feature historical reenactors Keith Errington and Nimue Brown, alongside members of the museum team. Errington has worked as a historical interpreter for History’s Maid and Time Tarts and has performed historical roles in television series. Brown is a storyteller and musician with an interest in local history and folklore, and can also share insight into disability and medicine throughout history.
The event is listed in the museum’s Summer Holiday programme. The traditional songs, stories and character encounters from 10.30am to 3.30pm are free, while the craft and sword-school activities carry the stated £1 charge.
