A popular sandwich shop in Nailsworth is set to close this weekend after the sale of the building where it has traded for the past 18 months.
Nice Baps will serve customers for the final time at its Cossack Square premises on Saturday, September 26. Owner Lisa Gatley said the closure was happening because the building had been sold, bringing the shop’s time at the town-centre location to an end.
The closure is expected to be an emotional moment for the business and its regular customers. When Stroud Times visited Nice Baps, flowers, cards and a heartfelt poem had been left for Gatley. The tributes reflected the affection built up around the shop and the space she had created during its time in Nailsworth.
Fundraiser planned for final day
The shop’s final day will also include a fundraiser in aid of breast cancer. The event will begin at 9am and will feature tea and cake, a tombola, a raffle and a lucky dip.
Customers have been encouraged to visit on Friday or Saturday to say goodbye, take part in the fundraiser and support the breast cancer cause. The event will provide a final opportunity for people to gather at the Cossack Square shop before it closes.
“It is with much sadness that Nice Baps will be closing its doors on Saturday, the 26th of September due to the sale of the building.”
Gatley thanked customers for supporting Nice Baps since it opened and invited them to attend the fundraiser. The shop has become a familiar name in Nailsworth, serving sandwiches and other food from its town-centre premises.
Owner hopes business can return
Although the Cossack Square shop is closing, Gatley has indicated that the business may not be finished. She hopes Nice Baps could soon appear at another location and said she would keep customers informed about any future plans.
“Hopefully we will be able to pop up in a different location very soon. Will keep you posted.”
No replacement premises have been confirmed in the supplied information, so it is not yet known where Nice Baps might operate if a new site is found.
Business followed Walkers closure
Gatley opened Nice Baps in Cossack Square in 2025 alongside Lesley Glover. The shop followed the closure of Walkers in January that year and went on to establish itself at the premises over the following 18 months.
The Saturday event will therefore mark both the end of Nice Baps at its current address and a fundraiser for breast cancer. Customers can use the final days to thank Gatley, enjoy the shop’s last service at Cossack Square and support the activities planned for the cause.
