Longfield Community Hospice is making an urgent appeal to van owners, businesses and volunteers across Gloucestershire as it prepares for its biggest-ever Christmas tree recycling campaign.
The Minchinhampton-based hospice is seeking people who can provide a van, give a day of their time or join a collection crew for its annual Treecycling campaign. The appeal is being made in partnership with the charity JustHelping.
The 2027 collections are scheduled to run from Sunday, January 10, to Sunday, January 17. The campaign will mark 10 years of Christmas tree collections across Gloucestershire.
How local people can help
Longfield is particularly looking for volunteers with suitable vehicles who can collect trees from homes. The hospice says removal trucks, flatbed trucks and other appropriate vehicles would be especially useful.
Jane Dyer, head of fundraising at Longfield Community Hospice, said: “We are particularly looking for volunteers with vans across Gloucestershire – whether you’re a company, an individual, a group of friends or a community organisation.”
She added: “If you have a removal truck, flatbed truck or other suitable vehicle, even better.”
The hospice is also looking for people who would rather support the campaign behind the scenes, including with administration. Dyer said: “But don’t be put off if you just want to help with admin behind the scenes – we anticipate that this collection will be our biggest yet.”
Businesses can support the campaign by sponsoring a van, contributing towards fuel costs or providing vehicles and volunteer crews. People interested in helping can register through the Get Involved section of the Longfield website.
Thousands of trees collected last year
Treecycling gives households a way to recycle real Christmas trees while raising money for hospice care. Last year, about 200 volunteers collected more than 4,600 trees from homes across the county.
The trees were recycled into wood chippings, and donations raised more than £76,000. The money supports Longfield’s work with people affected by life-limiting illness and bereavement.
Longfield hopes the community will support the next campaign and help make the 2027 collection its largest so far.
The source material carries both an October 14, 2026 “Updated” label and an October 18, 2026 publication date. The collection dates and campaign year are reported as supplied.
