Television antiques expert Izzie Balmer is joining Wotton Auction Rooms in a new partnership that will bring her valuation and auction experience to the auction house each month.
Balmer is known to television audiences through her appearances on the BBC programmes Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and The Travelling Auctioneers. At Wotton-under-Edge, she will work as an independent valuer, jewellery specialist and auctioneer alongside Joseph Trinder and the wider auction-house team.
Free valuation day in Wotton-under-Edge
Her first appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, 9 September, when she will be at Wotton Auction Rooms from 10.30am until 4pm for a special antiques and jewellery valuation day.
Members of the public will be able to bring items to the auction house for free expert valuations and advice. The organisers say visitors can bring jewellery, antiques, decorative arts, heirlooms and other treasured possessions.
The session will give owners the opportunity to ask about the history and potential value of their belongings. They can also receive advice about how items might be consigned for auction, helping them understand both the stories behind their possessions and their possible place in a sale.
Balmer is a qualified jewellery specialist, as well as an experienced general valuer and auctioneer. Her television work has made her one of the best-known figures in the antiques world, according to the report announcing the partnership.
Monthly role and new fine-sale programme
Under the arrangement, Balmer will join the Wotton team for one day each month. Her work will support the auction house ahead of its monthly auctions and a new programme of quarterly fine sales.
The partnership comes as Wotton Auction Rooms invites entries for its September Antique & Interiors Sale. The auction house is also preparing for its Autumn Quarterly Fine & Curated Sale, which is due to take place in October.
Joseph Trinder said the team was pleased to welcome Balmer to the auction house and to host the first valuation event from its historic Tabernacle offices.
“We’re delighted to welcome Izzie to Wotton Auction Rooms for what is certain to be a wonderful day valuing jewellery, antiques and heirlooms from our historic Tabernacle offices.”
Trinder also encouraged local residents to attend and meet Balmer, describing her as one of the leading figures in the antiques world.
“We hope lots of you will join us in welcoming one of the antiques world’s brightest and best to Wotton Auction Rooms.”
The free valuation day is due to take place at Wotton Auction Rooms on Wednesday, 9 September, between 10.30am and 4pm. Residents bringing items can seek advice on their background, value and potential auction route during Balmer’s first visit. Further information is available from Wotton Auction Rooms.
