Drivers travelling between Stroud and Stonehouse face a series of road closures and temporary traffic restrictions when the 44th Stroud Half Marathon takes place. The event is scheduled to start at 9am and finish on Cainscross Road, beside the Marling School field.
The event will also include 10K and mini mile races. Organisers say free car parks are available around Stroud, with an approximate walking time of 10 to 15 minutes. There will be no parking at Marling School, either at the race start or finish.
Road closures in Stroud
The A419 Cainscross Road will be closed from 7.30am until 1pm. Paganhill Lane will then be closed from 9.50am to 12.30pm.
There will also be restrictions around the Dudbridge and Cainscross roundabouts:
- Dudbridge Roundabout to Cainscross Roundabout northbound: 8.50am to 9.25am.
- Cainscross Roundabout to Dudbridge Roundabout southbound: 8.45am to 12.30pm.
- The B4008 from Cainscross Roundabout through Westward Road, Ebley Road and Bath Road Roundabout: 8.50am to 9.25am.
- The B4008 eastbound from Bath Road Roundabout through Ebley Road, Westward Road and Cainscross Roundabout: 9.35am to midday.
Stonehouse and Whitminster restrictions
A rolling road block will run from Bath Road Roundabout into Stonehouse, through the town along Gloucester Road and as far as the turn into Standish Lane. It is expected to begin at about 9.07am at the Bath Road Roundabout, also known as the Horse Trough, and reach Standish Lane at about 10am.
This restriction will affect northbound traffic travelling towards Gloucester only. The route will also leave the A38 at the top of Whitminster Hill before continuing down Nupend (Grove) Lane to Great Oldbury Drive. Nupend (Grove) Lane will be closed from 9am to 11.15am for safety reasons.
Residents and emergency services will still have access to Nupend (Grove) Lane. Organisers have asked people affected by the restrictions for their patience and cooperation.
Parking and charity support
Suggested parking locations are Cheapside Car Park, by Stroud station (GL5 3BL), Cainscross Car Park (GL5 4JQ) and London Road (GL5 2AP). Drivers should plan for the walk to the event because the race site itself will not provide parking.
The race is described as one of the area’s largest annual sporting events, attracting athletes nationally and supporting local charities. This year’s chosen charities are The Door Youth Project and Longfield Hospice.
Date note: The supplied report says the race takes place on Sunday, October 26, but also carries publication dates of October 20 and 21, 2026. Readers should check the organiser’s latest event information before travelling.
