A new alternative education provision at Fromehall Mill in Stroud can begin accepting enquiries from potential students after completing Gloucestershire County Council’s due diligence process.
The Resonating Routes Project, based at the historic Fromehall Mill on Lodgemore Lane, has now been added to the county council’s online Alternative Provision catalogue. Its inclusion means the team can start discussions with young people, families, schools and professionals about possible placements and support.
Personalised learning at Fromehall Mill
The project is aimed at young people aged 16 to 25 who may have struggled in traditional educational settings and could benefit from a more personalised and creative approach to learning.
Its programme will combine education with music production, digital media, outdoor learning and practical vocational activities. The stated aim is to help participants rebuild confidence, develop life and employability skills and work towards positive futures.
Fromehall Mill Studios is also planning to offer AQA Awards, as well as qualifications and other learning opportunities in music and media. The provision will use personalised learning pathways rather than a single standard programme.

Howard Smith, co-founder and Provision Lead at Fromehall Mill Studios, described the catalogue listing as an important milestone. He said it would allow the organisation to begin conversations with young people, families, schools and professionals about the support available.
“Our aim is to provide a genuinely different learning environment — one where young people can build confidence, discover their strengths and develop skills through subjects such as music and media, while also working towards recognised qualifications.”
Who can make a referral or enquiry?
The team can accept referrals from local authorities, special educational needs and disabilities teams, schools, colleges and other professionals. Young people and their families can also contact the project directly to ask for more information.
Fromehall Mill Studios operates in partnership with Creative Sustainability CIC. The two organisations share the historic mill building and a commitment to improving opportunities for young people and the local community.
