Police are appealing for the owner of a dog after an attack at Woodchester Park left a woman needing surgery and another dog with puncture wounds.
The incident happened at around 3pm on Wednesday, September 9, on a footpath near the first lake. The appeal was reported by Stroud Times on September 18, 2026.
What happened near the first lake
According to police, the dog had been playing fetch with its owner, who was throwing a stick. It then ran up the bank and attacked another dog, which was a Labradoodle.
The Labradoodle’s owner tried to intervene but was bitten on the hand. She suffered serious injuries which required surgery. Police said the attack was reported to have continued for some time.
In an attempt to bring the attacking dog under control, the Labradoodle’s owner handed its lead to the other owner. However, she left the scene afterwards without obtaining the other owner’s details because of the fear and shock of what had happened.
The Labradoodle was taken to a vet after the incident and suffered puncture wounds.
Description of the dog and its owner
Police are asking the owner of the attacking dog to come forward. They are also seeking witnesses and anyone who may recognise the description provided.
The dog was described as a fit and athletic crossbreed that was probably young. It had long legs, short brindle-coloured hair and a straight tail. Police said it possibly had a broad head and pointed nose, and that it may have been called Benjy.
The owner was described as a woman aged in her late 30s or early 40s, with long black hair and a slim build. She was possibly of mixed heritage and was using a slip lead, which goes over a dog’s nose and neck.
