Film fans in Stroud have a chance to see a line-up of much-loved cinema classics on the big screen again this autumn, with Vue Stroud bringing back films celebrating anniversaries ranging from 20 to 50 years.

The season began on 11 September with Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first film featuring Harrison Ford as archaeologist Indiana Jones. The 1981 adventure is marking its 45th anniversary and follows Indy as he faces booby-traps, Nazis and snakes in a search for a powerful archaeological artefact.

Also returning from 11 September is The Transformers: The Movie, which is celebrating 40 years since its cinema release. The animated film is noted for its voice cast, soundtrack and story, with audiences advised to stay through the credits.

Horror and thriller classics return

Vue Stroud’s anniversary programme moves into darker territory from late September and October. Manhunter returns from 25 September to mark its 40th anniversary. Based on Thomas Harris’s novel Red Dragon, the thriller introduced audiences to an early version of Hannibal Lecter.

The line-up includes several films associated with horror and suspense. The Craft, the cult supernatural film, returns from 16 October for its 30th anniversary, alongside The Others, which also returns from 16 October to mark 25 years since its release.

Scream follows from 23 October, celebrating 30 years of scares. The film is described as an iconic slasher, giving local audiences another opportunity to watch it on the cinema screen as part of the anniversary season.

Casino Royale, Pan’s Labyrinth and Rocky among later screenings

The programme continues into November with a mixture of crime, fantasy, drama and sporting inspiration. Daniel Craig’s Casino Royale and Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth are both marking their 20th anniversaries, with screenings of Casino Royale beginning on 2 October and Pan’s Labyrinth from 30 October.

Donnie Darko, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, also returns from 30 October. The season closes with the original Rocky, back on the big screen from 6 November for a special 50th-anniversary screening.
