Stroud Camera Club has opened its 2026–2027 competitive season with a new section designed to give less experienced photographers a more approachable route into club competitions.
The launch took place at Cotswold Bowls Club during Competition No. 1 – Open. It marked the official debut of the Digital B section, a new tier created to support new members and people who feel uncomfortable entering the club’s traditional, high-stakes competition arena.
New section aims to make competitions more accessible
The Digital B section is intended to broaden participation in the club’s digital competitions. Its introduction gives photographers who are still developing their skills an additional opportunity to submit work and receive feedback in a supportive setting.
The club described the launch as setting an inclusive tone for the months ahead. The opening evening brought together prints and digitally projected images in what the source described as a packed room.
Judging was led by external judge Steve Field, who returned to Stroud for his third judging invitation. Field’s listed distinctions are ARPS, AIPF, AWPF, ADPS, EFIAP/b and BPE3. His contribution was characterised by a constructive, highly analytical and encouraging approach to critiquing the entries.
Holmes wins the main digital competition
Leslie Holmes took first place in the main A digital competition with Antarctica. Annie Blick was runner-up with Locker Room, while Gary Canning finished third with Rider in the storm.
The new B section was won by David Walls with Fasnacht Visage. Phil Walker came second with Bubbles, and Ian Clements took third place with St Georges Church.
Bloodworth takes two open print places
Trish Bloodworth led the open print competition, taking both of the top two positions. Her winning entry was Spirit of the Wild, followed by her second-placed image Langston Hardware.
Mick West completed the open print results in third place with Lines to the clouds. Together, the results covered the club’s main A digital, new B digital and open print categories at the first competition of the season.
Weekly meetings in Stroud
Stroud Camera Club meets every Thursday evening at 7.30pm. The club is encouraging anyone who wants to learn how to get more from their camera to attend.
