Stroud will host a public discussion on the future of the green movement when Green Party deputy leader Rachel Millward appears alongside veteran environmentalist, writer and campaigner Jonathon Porritt later this month.

The pair will share a platform for the first time at Lansdown Hall on Friday, October 23. The event will run from 7pm to 9pm and will focus on the challenges and opportunities facing the planet, as well as questions about climate change, communities and politics.

A question-and-answer evening rather than speeches

Organisers say the format will be led by questions from the audience, rather than a succession of prepared speeches. Local Young Greens will put questions to the two speakers, while older members of the audience will also be able to contribute.

Adrian Oldman, the organiser, said the event was intended to give younger people a central role in discussing decisions that will affect their lives. He added that the evening would also give other audience members the chance to question the speakers.

“This won’t be a series of speeches from the stage. Young people are those who will have to live with the choices we make now.”

Mr Oldman said the discussion would cover “the climate, our communities, politics and the future of the green movement”, describing it as an evening of ideas, challenge and conversation.

The event is open to everyone and is not restricted to Green Party members. Admission is by ticket only, with standard tickets priced at £10.
