Luke Williams has emerged as the bookmakers’ favourite to replace Robbie Savage as Forest Green Rovers manager, with the former Peterborough United boss priced at 1/2 to take charge at The New Lawn.
The 45-year-old was appointed Peterborough manager during the summer, but his time at London Road ended abruptly last month after less than 11 months in the role. Savage subsequently left Forest Green to take over at Peterborough, creating a managerial vacancy at the Gloucestershire club.
Williams’ managerial record
Williams began his managerial career at Swindon Town in 2015. He was dismissed after the club’s relegation to League Two at the end of the 2016-17 season.
He moved to then National League side Notts County in the summer of 2022. During his first full season, County recorded a club-record 107 points and won promotion back to the English Football League after beating Chesterfield in a penalty shootout at Wembley.
That success led to Williams stepping up two divisions when Swansea City appointed him in January 2024. His spell in south Wales lasted 13 months, ending after a run of seven Championship defeats in nine matches.
Forest Green’s search for a permanent successor
Forest Green are currently being managed on an interim basis by Jonathan Gould, Yan Klukowski and Josh Bowen. The trio took charge following Savage’s departure and are expected to remain in place while the club continues its search for a permanent successor.
The next test for the interim management team is a home match against struggling Hartlepool United on Saturday. Forest Green are due to welcome Hartlepool to The New Lawn as the club’s search for Savage’s replacement continues.
Williams’ status as the current 1/2 favourite makes him the leading name in the bookmakers’ market, but the supplied report does not say that he has been appointed or that talks have taken place. Forest Green’s next permanent manager therefore remains unconfirmed.
