Members of the public will be able to bring treasured jewellery, antiques and family possessions to Wotton Auction Rooms on Wednesday, October 7, when television antiques expert Izzie Balmer hosts a free valuation day with an unnamed celebrity actor.
The event follows an announcement published on October 6. Balmer, known for her appearances on Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip and The Travelling Auctioneers, will be at the auction house from 10.30am until 4pm. Visitors will be offered expert advice and valuations without charge.
The identity of the actor is being kept secret until filming takes place. According to the event announcement, the guest has appeared alongside major Hollywood names including Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp. Stroud Times will film Balmer carrying out a valuation with the actor, with the actor’s identity due to be revealed as part of the filming.
“We’re really looking forward to it, and we can’t thank the team at Wotton Auction Rooms enough for allowing us to film this special occasion, where everything will be revealed.”
People attending can bring jewellery, antiques, decorative arts, heirlooms and other treasured possessions. The service is intended to help owners understand an item’s history, its potential value and whether it might be suitable for consignment to a future auction.
Advice from an experienced valuer
Balmer is a qualified jewellery specialist, as well as an experienced general valuer and auctioneer. She will work with Joseph Trinder and the wider Wotton Auction Rooms team during the day, giving visitors the opportunity to discuss possessions that may have personal, historical or financial significance.
The auction house said the occasion would allow local residents to meet a familiar figure from the antiques television world while learning more about items they own. No details have been supplied about the mystery actor beyond the description of previous work alongside the three named Hollywood stars.
Balmer’s appearance is part of a wider arrangement with the auction house. She has joined the Wotton team for one day each month, working alongside staff ahead of the company’s regular monthly auctions and a new programme of quarterly fine sales.
Entries invited for October fine sale
The partnership comes as Wotton Auction Rooms invites entries for its Autumn Quarterly Fine & Curated Sale. That sale is due to take place on October 13, six days after the valuation event.
“We’re delighted to welcome Izzie back to Wotton Auction Rooms for what is certain to be a wonderful day valuing jewellery, antiques and heirlooms from our historic Tabernacle offices.”
Trinder said the team hoped many people would attend and described the valuation day as an opportunity to have jewellery, antiques and heirlooms assessed at the auction rooms’ historic Tabernacle offices.
Residents interested in finding out more about possessions they own can attend during the stated 10.30am-to-4pm window and bring suitable items for discussion. The event offers both free specialist guidance and information about how appropriate pieces could potentially enter a future auction.
