Former Forest Green Rovers midfielder Charlie McCann is reportedly attracting attention from clubs in the Championship and League One after a prolific start to his Cheltenham Town career.

McCann has scored seven goals in his first nine league appearances for Cheltenham this season. That form earned the 24-year-old the League Two Player of the Month award for September and has brought interest from clubs higher up the English football pyramid.

The reported tracking of the midfielder was highlighted by football journalist Peter O’Rourke. The report, published on October 9, 2026, does not identify the clubs involved and does not say that a formal bid has been made.

McCann’s Forest Green record

McCann spent two-and-a-half years at Forest Green after joining the club from Rangers in January 2023. He scored 15 goals in 90 appearances for Forest Green across all competitions during that spell.

He was also previously associated with Manchester United and Rangers before establishing himself in senior football. His time at Forest Green ended when Robbie Savage replaced Steve Cotterill in the summer of 2025.

Return to Gloucestershire

After leaving Forest Green, McCann joined Barrow. He later returned to Gloucestershire, rejoining Cotterill at Cheltenham Town in June 2026. Cheltenham signed him for a nominal fee.

His early-season scoring record has now placed him on the radar of clubs from the two divisions above League Two. However, the available report describes the interest as monitoring rather than a completed move or confirmed transfer approach.

For Forest Green, McCann’s progress provides a recent link between the club and one of the players who helped its midfield during his 90-appearance spell. His next move, if one develops, would depend on whether any interested Championship or League One club makes a formal approach.
